How much do architectural renders cost in Australia?

Dudley Avenue architectural render in Caringbah, Sydney, produced by Render Works for Econ Group

The cost of an architectural render depends on what the studio has to build and what you need delivered. A single room, a streetscape and a full development campaign are different scopes. Compare quotes in Australian dollars against the same drawings, camera list, finish schedule, revision allowance and output requirements.

Published prices give a starting point, but they do not establish the price of your project. Render Works quotes each development against its brief. Send the plans and intended views to request a scoped quote.

What do Australian studios publish?

The examples below were checked on 29 October 2026. They are two providers' advertised starting prices, not an Australian market average, a quality ranking or Render Works prices. Both providers state that these figures exclude GST; inclusions and final scope differ.

Published example Interior still Exterior still Source
Build3DRender From A$345 per image From A$445 per image Sydney service and price list
Aurum Render From A$1,000 per image From A$1,000 per image Published rate card

These examples show why a number alone is not enough. Ask what modelling, surrounding context, styling, changes and delivery files the quoted amount buys. A supplier quoting a view from an existing model may be pricing a different job from one modelling the building and its site from drawings.

What changes the cost of a render set?

Scope item What to clarify before comparing quotes
Drawings and model Is a usable model supplied, or does the studio need to build the geometry? Which drawing revision controls the work?
Number of views List each camera and the space or dwelling it shows. An extra angle and an extra building are different tasks.
Site context Specify neighbouring buildings, roads, terrain, landscape design and any site-photo composite.
Interior detail Supply selected materials, joinery drawings, fittings and the intended furniture direction.
Revisions Confirm included rounds and the difference between correcting a render and changing the approved design.
Final outputs Record print dimensions, website placements, crop variants and any source-file requirements.
Film State the scenes, finished duration, aspect ratios, music and whether approved stills or a 3D scene already exist.
Timing Separate production milestones from the time your team needs to review and approve them.

One useful way to manage cost is to agree the purpose of every image before production. Adding several similar angles can create less value than a view that answers a different buyer question.

What does a five-image residential brief look like?

For Dudley Avenue in Caringbah, Sydney, Render Works delivered five images for Econ Group: two exterior views and three interiors. The frontage explains arrival and the architecture; the courtyard shows the private pool area; the kitchen, living/dining area and bathroom explain the interior spaces and finishes.

That is a real example of a deliverable set, not a published project price. It gives a developer something concrete to discuss when asking for a comparable scope.

View Question it answers
Street frontage What does the development look like from the street?
Pool courtyard How does the private outdoor space relate to the home?
Kitchen What joinery, surfaces and layout are proposed?
Living and dining How do the principal rooms connect to the garden?
Bathroom What is the material and fitting direction?

See the townhouse and duplex shot-list guide for other ways to plan the cameras. A larger development may need more dwelling types, shared areas or site views; a smaller brief may need fewer images.

How should a quote present the total?

Ask for the currency and whether applicable tax is included or additional. The quote should identify the deliverable set, assumptions about supplied files, included reviews, output specifications, payment stages and how a change of scope is handled. Keep optional items separate so you can decide whether the campaign needs them.

For a package, compare the total scope instead of dividing every supplier's total by the image count. One package might include an aerial, several distinct home types or extensive site context that another excludes. Film, a development website and marketing collateral should also be identifiable in the scope.

What should you send to get a useful price?

Send current plans, elevations and sections, the available model, selected finishes and site references. Add a numbered shot list, intended campaign channels and required launch date. Mark undecided selections rather than asking the studio to infer them.

Use one consolidated brief when comparing suppliers. Our input checklist and Australian studio-selection guide help prepare that comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Are the published prices above Render Works prices?

No. They are dated examples from the linked providers. Render Works prepares a quote for your drawings, selected views and intended outputs.

Does a cheaper image always mean a cheaper campaign?

Compare the complete scope. Additional modelling, extra views, design changes or missing output formats can change the total. Decide what the campaign needs before comparing prices.

Can existing drawings and models reduce the work?

A usable model can reduce some modelling work, but the studio still needs to check its detail and suitability for the intended cameras. Include the originating software and drawing revision in your brief.

Can I commission renders for a Sydney development?

Yes. See our Sydney architectural rendering service and the Dudley Avenue project, then send your plans and proposed scope.
